Reyes had insisted, from the first hour of Wick’s custody, on a protection protocol considerably more careful than anything the previous investigation had managed for Fraser Bell, and Siobhan understood, watching him lay out the arrangements in a briefing three days after the gate lodge, that this was a man who had read the Kinloch file thoroughly enough to understand exactly what mistake he did not intend to repeat.
