He called Melissa once Rob had gone, unable to hold the fact of the evening inside himself any longer without saying it aloud to her specifically, and she listened in the particular focused silence he’d come to recognise as her working a problem rather than simply reacting to it, and when he’d finished she was quiet for a moment before she spoke.
