Chapter Thirty-Seven

He drove out to see Sandra Bell himself, three weeks after the story ran, rather than waiting for another phone call — understanding, somewhere in the drive out to her estate on the edge of Inverdrum, that a conversation this important deserved to happen with both of them in the same room rather than filtered through a phone line, the way so much of this story had been forced to happen at a remove neither of them had ever properly chosen.
