Dame Isla Ferguson agreed to speak with Melissa on the condition of complete privacy, no recording, no solicitor present, and Melissa realised that this particular condition represented either a genuine offer of honesty or an extremely careful attempt to control exactly how much of that honesty ever became formally usable.
