The call reached Callum rather than Melissa directly, and Callum understood, listening to the careful, frightened voice on the other end of an unfamiliar number, that whatever this particular contact represented, it belonged to precisely the same pattern that had first brought Douglas Fairweather into this whole difficult reckoning months earlier.
