They took a proper week away once the immediate demands of the case had finally, sufficiently settled, a small cottage on the west coast that neither of them had any prior connection to, and Melissa understood, watching Callum properly relax for the first time in what felt like months, that they had both, separately and together, needed exactly this kind of ordinary, uncomplicated distance before either of them could properly process everything the last two years had actually cost.
