Reyes listened to the full account the following morning with the same grave, measured attention Callum had watched him bring to every difficult development across this whole two-year reckoning, and understood, watching him absorb it, that whatever institutional caution the coming days required, this particular superintendent had long since earned the right to be trusted with exactly how it needed handling.
